Red Lampshade

about

Look, it costs a lot of money to properly record music. The pandemic really messed with the way artists earn money, and I am not trying to take advantage of anyone, but I think a new standard needs to be set. Songwriters like me don't make much money from streaming, it has decimated my physical product sales, and therefore my revenue. There was a time, not long ago, where each tour would generate healthy revenue in merch sales, but that has gone. Covid left touring precarious....and anyway, blah, blah, blah.

Selling a song for $1 when it costs a few thousand to make seems like a stupid business choice...I might as well give it to you for nothing.

If you want to listen to my new song, I invite you do so for free on Bandcamp. If you love it, and you want to support what I'm trying to do, you can pay $5 (less than a latte)...or more if you're feeling generous. This song will be streaming in the next month or so, but for now, this is where you can hear it. Watch for more songs in this series. When it's all said and done, there will be another format at the end of the rainbow, for those who want a physical version.

This song is the beginning of a much bigger, stylistically different picture. One that will be drawn over the course of the coming months. I'm painting it in real time and letting the songs fly when they're ready to go. It's a taste of some new sounds being worked on at The Hill Sound.

I truly hope you enjoy it.

lyrics

Casual cruelty fucks up the air in here tonight
Now that the lines are drawn, say what you wanna say
Let's hear from the other side of love

There's something about the lonely light
and I'm in the corner of the room with the red lamp on
Nothing about this feels alright
and I wanna go back to the way it was
Before the blues came up

There in the moment you can't see how meaningless it is
Words are exploding until somebody tries showing desire to forgive

There's something about the lonely light
and I'm in the corner of the room with the red lamp on
Nothing about this feels alright
and I wanna go back to the way it was
Before the blues came up
