The “lost love” song was written years ago in Toronto, by Ari Rhodes, Liam Titcomb, and me. The demo sat in a folder for about 6 years, but I knew there was something special to it. Every few months I would check back in on it and its charm never really faded, so in January 2022, I reached out to Adam Gallant at The Hill Sound in Charlottetown, PE and asked him if he’d be interested in recreating this track with me in the hopes that we could turn it into a single.
We were in lockdown at the time, with Covid raging, so we opted for a file sharing session instead. We decided on a BPM, I recorded a basic guitar track at home and send it to Adam who added a drum track and a bass line. By the time we got back to the track, Covid restrictions had eased a little, so we did a day in the studio recording vocals and additional guitars. We brought Aaron Comeau in to play piano on it and at this point it was really taking shape.
We had a great track but it needed the finishing touch, so I reached out to my friend Rose Cousins, in Halifax, NS at the time, to see if she’d be interested in singing on it with me. She said, “send me the track, and I’ll let you know”…so I did and a few days later I got magical vocal parts back from her. We mixed the track in a day and here we are.
I had never really done long distance recording, aside from some odd demos here and there, so this was a whole new experience for me. It really turned out beautifully and I owe it all to those involved, Adam, Aaron, and Rose.
lyrics
COME BACK TO ME
One thing I know
From all I’ve learned
True love’s bridge
Is never really burned
Am I crazy to believe that you could see, you could see?
Any way for you to come back to me, come back to me
Am I crazy to believe you’d ever come back to me?
You’re everywhere
I go these days
The ghost of you
Fills this space
Might be crazy to believe that you could see, you could see
Any way for you to come back to me, come back to me
Am I crazy to believe you’d ever come back to me?
I held out hope
For such a long, long time
But you didn’t call
And you didn’t write
Guess I’m crazy to believe you’d ever see, ever see
Any way for you to come back to me
Am I crazy to believe / you’d ever come back to me?
